BRANDENBURG - Travis Hackert has been named the next head boy’s basketball coach at Meade County High School, Principal Garrett Frank announced Friday.

“We are thrilled to have Travis Hackert leading the boy’s basketball program at Meade County High School," said Frank. "His record of success at three Division 1 basketball programs speaks for itself, but we were equally impressed with his tireless work ethic and detailed plans for taking our basketball program to new heights."

Prior to joining the Greenwave coaching staff Hackert was an Assistant Coach at UNC Wilmington for two seasons under Head Coach Takayo Siddle. During this period UNC Wilmington won the Regular Season CAA Conference Championship and the CBI post-season tournament.

Also during his time in the college ranks Hackert served as the Director of Basketball Operations at both NC State and UNC Wilmington under Head Coach Kevin Keatts. At both stops he assisted with scouting, scheduling, and player development among numerous other responsibilities. While in this role at UNC Wilmington Hackert helped lead the Seahawks to 29 wins in 2016-17, the most in school history. While at NC State Hackert played a role in helping the Wolfpack knock off five Top-10 opponents.

Prior to his on-staff roles, Hackert served as a student manager at the University of Louisville under Head Coach Rick Pitino. While at UofL he was responsible for filming and editing Cardinal practices and games, along with editing game film for opponent scouting. During Hackert’s time at Louisville, the Cardinals made four NCAA appearances, won three conference tournament titles, appeared in two Final Fours, and won the NCAA National Championship in 2013.

In total, Coach Hackert brings 12 seasons of experience at the highest levels of college basketball with him as he begins his tenure as MCHS Head Coach. Coach Hackert will look to build on Meade County basketball’s success.

"I'm extremely honored and excited to lead the Meade County boy’s basketball program,” said Hackert. “Meade County has always been a special place for me and my family. I look forward to pouring into the youth of this community and building off the solid foundation already established. This truly is a dream job for me and I can’t wait to get started.”
